Ce paquet a été modifié lors de son intégration : No name has been rewritten. The changes are selection and splitting: the cities are those of Natural Earth’s 10 m populated places, the national capitals left out because the catalogue already covers them, the rest ranked by the dataset’s own population estimate and cut off at a workable deck length. Entries whose name is missing, damaged or ambiguous in this language have been dropped rather than repaired, and a city name that appears twice takes both of its cards down with it. The deduplication covers the whole series and not just this deck: “Birmingham” is in England and in Alabama, so neither card is kept. Entries whose country carries a contested name in this language, and those in states that are not generally recognised, have been dropped as well — a review card is not the place to settle that; this is why the island of Taiwan contributes no card here. A review pass then removed entries that the dataset marks as populated places or administrative seats but that are not large cities: greenfield or small administrative capitals (Amaravati, Saidu Sharif), counties and districts carried in as if they were cities (Shuyang, a county of Suqian; Wanzhou, a district of Chongqing, which is already a card of its own), and names that denote no single city (Lianshan). Delhi was dropped too: New Delhi is formally the capital of India, but in ordinary use Delhi is the Indian capital, and the deck promises to leave capitals out. Two presentation artefacts of the source field were normalised, not translated: “Jingmen City” and “Xiantao City” are written Jingmen and Xiantao, the usual English forms; “Jilin City” keeps its suffix, which is how English distinguishes the city from the province of the same name. The country side gives the short English form throughout, so China is written China.
