Cities of the world and their countries

Well-known cities that are not the capital of a sovereign state, and the country they stand in. Sizes run from world metropolises down to regional cities of about a hundred thousand people, and coverage is uneven: half the deck sits in the United States, Germany, France and Italy.

このデッキは取り込み時に変更されています: The initial capitalisation of the entries has been made uniform across the deck; no place name has been rewritten. Country names have been harmonised on the common English form, so the thirteen entries the source labelled "People's Republic of China" now read "China", as the rest of the deck already read "United Kingdom", "Ivory Coast" or "Czech Republic". Entries whose answer repeats its own question, and entries whose answer overlaps another one, have been removed rather than corrected. A second reading removed ten more: Malabo, which is the seat of government of Equatorial Guinea and so falls outside the stated scope, and nine cities whose bare name also belongs to a comparably well-known city in another country — Brest, Cambridge, Guadalajara, Lincoln, Manchester, Richmond, San Jose, Syracuse and Vancouver. The removal test is the existence of that second answer, not its size, and it is applied by hand, so a name ambiguous only in a particular region may have survived. Where the source held more entries than a deck can carry, the best-known ones were kept, ranked by the number of Wikipedia editions that describe them — that ranking is what tilts the deck towards Europe and North America. Capitals of the constituent nations of the United Kingdom (Cardiff, Edinburgh, Belfast) are kept: they are not capitals of sovereign states.
