Este mazo se modificó al incorporarlo: Extracted from Wiktionary through kaikki.org and rearranged by Memoquiz. (1) Selection: only single-word dictionary headwords of three to twenty letters are kept; every sense marked as an inflected form, an alternative spelling, an abbreviation, an archaism, slang or a familiar register is dropped, and an entry whose first sense falls to those filters is dropped whole rather than shown through a secondary sense; a headword listed under several etymologies is read once, on its first entry only. A headword that the same edition also describes as an adjective, an adverb, a pronoun, a determiner or a numeral is dropped too: it is not unambiguous noun vocabulary. (2) Definitions: only short ones made of letters, spaces, commas, apostrophes and hyphens are kept — brackets, colons and semicolons mark a definition that does not read on its own on the back of a card. The closing full stop is removed; nothing else is touched, and no definition is rewritten. (3) Circular cards removed: a definition that repeats the Spanish headword, accents and case ignored, teaches nothing and is dropped; and so is a headword that is itself a common noun in the reader’s own language — pie in English, time in Brazilian Portuguese — because such a card is a trap rather than a question. (4) Order: the headwords retained are the most frequent in the Tatoeba corpus of the same language, counted only where a determiner precedes them so that the noun is measured and not the spelling it shares with a verb; Wiktionary itself carries no frequency. (5) Review: every card was read one by one and removed outright — never reworded, since no definition is rewritten here — when its first Wiktionary sense is not the current meaning of the word (juego glossed play, viaje glossed voyage, cuenta glossed count, principio glossed principle, discurso glossed discourse, suelo glossed soil), or when a rule above should already have caught it: ser, read first as the verb to be; tele, a colloquial clipping; mesa, itself a common English noun. Nine cards were dropped this way; what remains is the pack as read, and no list of removals is shipped beside it. (6) Not harmonised: British and American spellings coexist from one card to the next because the definitions are copied verbatim (aeroplane and pushbike next to center and behavior). Three English glosses each serve two Spanish headwords — husband for marido and esposo, company for empresa and compañía, computer for ordenador and computadora — which is why the pack is read in one direction only, from Spanish to English, and must not be reversed without settling those pairs first.
